An independent senior advisory group acts as advisors and reviewers of the CSI's work program and progress. The Group ensures that the Initiative has appropriate focus and processes, and critically reviews the quality and balance of the work program.

Membership of the senior advisory group is drawn from internationally recognized experts representing key stakeholder groups and geographic regions. Dr. Mostafa Tolba, former director of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), chairs the advisory group. The members forming the group are:
