IEA and WBCSD announced technology roadmap outlining low-carbon growth pathways for the Indian cement industry that could lead to carbon intensity reductions of 45% by 2050. It proposes that these reductions could come from increased clinker substitution and alternative fuel use; further improvements to energy efficiency, and the development & widespread implementation of newer technologies.

The International EPD® System published today the Product Category Rules for unreinforced concrete developed by the CSI. This set of rules provides a common methodology for concrete producers who wish to issue Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for their products.

Seoul, 31 October 2012

CEOs of CSI member companies signed the updated CSI Charter at the Seoul meeting on 31 Oct, 2012.  The document represents the CSI members’ individual commitments as part of their contribution to sustainable development.  New members have 3 years from joining to meet the requirements as laid out in the Charter; and a CSI coordinated audit will be carried out once every 4 years, starting in 2014.

The CSI has been saddened by the announcement of the passing away of the Chairman of Sinoma, Mr. Tan Zhongming. On behalf of the CSI, Philippe Fonta expressed his deepest sympathies to Mr. Tan’s family as well as to the people at Sinoma.

Mumbai, 1 August 2012

The CSI has signed a cooperation agreement with the IFC as part of a project the industry is co-leading, to develop the Low Carbon Technology Roadmap for the Indian cement industry. The Indian roadmap, to be launched in late 2012, will be the first roadmap to focus on one specific industrial sector in one a single country. The project is now moving on in parallel towards its implementation phase, to test the technologies identified in the report development.
