The CSI released an updated version of its Guidelines for Co-Processing Fuels and Raw Materials in Cement Manufacturing, providing a technical overview of key issues and guiding principles relating to the responsible selection and use of fuels and raw materials.

Taking the opportunity of the CSI Forum 2014 taking place in Cartagena, the CSI launched the latest addition to its series of tools and publications in helping the sector to find a suitable approach for sustainable cement operations.  The Biodiversity Management Plan (BMP) Guidance offers a practical resource for use at the site level when companies are at the stage of developing their biodiversity management plans.

Supported by major cement producers in Brazil and key local partners, the CSI and IEA joined hand again to initiate work on developing another national adaption of the technology roadmap to help the cement indsutry in reducing carbon emissions and enhancing energy efficency. A kick-off meeting took place on 12 September in São Paulo to mark the begining of the project.

The CSI participated in the Indian Cement Review conference 2014, where leaders from cement industry - manufacturers, users, dealers, researchers, vendors, service providers are brougth together to discuss and deliberate solutions to all major issues confronting the industry in India.

The CSI is working to help member companies develop a shared understanding of sustainable development criteria for the supply chain, to develop recommended good practice guidelines and provide material for training of suppliers to enhance their performance. A workshop on the theme was convened in Paris early June. In addition to representatives from member companies, procurement professionals, supply chain experts from IFC, BSR as well as BetterCoal and ICMM participated in the interaction.
